Hardening off the seedlings...
Last Friday, I began the process of hardening off the tomato, pepper, and celery seedlings. This year I have had the best looking seedlings out of the last three years, but they still don't quite look like the ones from the nursery. I am hoping to get them in the ground by midweek.

Jennie, your plants look nice. I put my sweet potatoes out yesterday. They look great. Dh wanted to plant them yesterday in the heat of the day, but I convinced him to wait till eveing. Plants do better if they are planted in the evening and watered good. It gives them the whole night to adjust without the sun cooking them. LOL My tomatoes were hardened off for a full week, but they sure look sickly. Of course within a few days of planting them, they were hailed on, pounded on with heavy, heavy rain, and blown about with wind gusts. (Sigh) I hope at least a few survive. I have never grown celery. Your looks so good. Maybe I will give it a try next year. Winona

Celery is something I wanted to try. I have never done it before either. I have to go get some manure before I can plant them. Unfortunately, all the great (free) composted horse manure was sold, so now I actually have to go pay for a couple of bags of cow manure. I like to plant on a cloudy day. Happy gardening. Jennie
Back home (Michigan) they used to plant celery in the peat bogs.
